Taking Steps That Make A Real Difference This National Walking Month
National Walking Month is a great reminder of the power of simple movement, time outdoors and setting personal challenges. Throughout May, many people across the UK look for ways to get active, improve wellbeing and reconnect with their local environment.
At Band of Builders, we see this as the perfect moment to highlight how walking can also help support construction workers and their families through our upcoming 4 Peaks Challenge.
For us, walking isn’t just about fitness. It’s about coming together, supporting each other and raising vital funds that allow us to continue providing life-changing support across the construction industry.
The Importance Of National Walking Month
National Walking Month encourages people to take simple steps towards better physical and mental wellbeing.
Walking is one of the most accessible forms of exercise and even short daily walks can help improve mood, reduce stress and build resilience over time.
For many in construction, where work is physically demanding and often fast-paced, walking can offer a different kind of movement, one that allows space to switch off, reflect and reset.
It’s also something that can be done together, which ties closely to the values at the heart of Band of Builders.
Community, connection and shared goals are what drive real impact, both on and off the trails.
Our Annual 4 Peaks Challenge
This National Walking Month also leads perfectly into one of our biggest fundraising events of the year: the Band of Builders 4 Peaks Challenge.
Taking place across the highest peaks in England, Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland, this challenge brings teams together to take on Scafell Pike, Snowdon, Ben Nevis and Slieve Donard.
It’s more than a physical challenge; it’s a national effort to support construction workers and their families when they need it most.
Every step taken during the challenge helps fund:
- Practical home adaptation projects
- Emergency financial support
- Wellbeing and mental health services
The 4 Peaks Challenge reflects exactly what National Walking Month is about, movement with purpose.
The Impact Behind Every Step
At Band of Builders, we know that behind every challenge completed, there is real impact waiting to happen.
In 2025 alone, we supported hundreds of individuals across the UK construction industry through a combination of practical, financial and wellbeing support.
National Walking Month helps shine a light on how physical activity can be used to create something bigger than ourselves.
When participants get involved in the 4 Peaks Challenge, they are not only pushing their own limits, but also helping others overcome some of the toughest moments in their lives.
That connection between effort and impact is what makes this challenge so powerful.
Why People Get Involved
People take part in the 4 Peaks Challenge for many reasons. Some want to challenge themselves physically, others want to support colleagues, friends or the wider construction community.
Many simply want to give something back.
Whatever the motivation, every participant becomes part of something bigger: a community that stands together when it matters most.
Walking together, climbing together, supporting together.
