HENRY’S PROJECT

In June 2026, four-year-old Henry was diagnosed with Burkitt lymphoma, an aggressive form of childhood cancer. This required immediate and intensive chemotherapy, and he is undergoing further intensive treatment, with additional cycles every three weeks. Due to his severely compromised immune system, any rise in temperature results in an immediate hospital admission.

Henry’s dad was in the middle of building an extension for the family’s four children, but work has stopped as the family’s time has been consumed by Henry’s treatment and caring responsibilities, leaving them without the capacity to continue the build.

Although Henry is well enough to leave hospital, the family have been forced to stay with his grandparents because the current condition of their home is not considered safe or suitable while Henry’s immune system remains suppressed.

As well as the strain of the family living on a building site, the disruption is having a huge adverse effect on Henry’s three siblings, who have had limited opportunities to spend time with him due to his prolonged hospital admissions.

THE PROJECT

We need most trades for this project. Substantial progress has already been made on the extension, with the structure complete and first-fix electrical and plumbing works largely installed. However, the remaining work is predominantly labour-intensive and includes insulating and plaster boarding ceilings, battening and dot and dab to walls, plastering, window installation, fitting the new kitchen, together with general completion works to make the extension habitable.

Given Henry’s ongoing treatment, it is important to create a safe and suitable home environment for him and his family as soon as possible.
