What is
every merchant matters?
Every Merchant Matters is an industry-wide initiative from Band of Builders, backed by the Builders Merchants Federation, to improve mental health and wellbeing across construction.
Builder’s merchants are at the heart of the construction community. Every day, merchant teams build relationships with the people who walk through their doors. They notice when someone isn’t themselves, and sometimes they are the person someone feels able to talk to.
This initiative brings merchants of every size together around a simple pledge: make wellbeing visible, encourage conversations and help people find support when they need it.
It’s not about turning merchant teams into mental health professionals. It’s about giving people the awareness, resources and confidence to notice, listen and signpost.
Every branch is a touchpoint. Every conversation has the potential to make a difference.

Specialist Merchant Training
Every Merchant Matters is about giving merchant teams the confidence to notice when someone may be struggling, start a safe conversation and know where to signpost them for support.
Backed by the Builders Merchants Federation, the campaign is working with The Support Yard to offer specialist training for builders merchant teams, helping staff recognise changes in customers, approach conversations with confidence and signpost people to appropriate support.
Designed specifically for the merchant environment, the training is practical, accessible and focused on giving teams the confidence to make a difference.
